(common names: Germani, Wild duck, Rossa, Castani)

The Mallard is 58cm in length. The drake has a shiny green head, yellow bill, dark chestnut breast and light grey underside. The hen is light brown in colour without any other distinguishing markings. It is an indigenous species in Greece with greater numbers in winter.
