(Common name: Mountain Partridge)

The Rock Partridge is 33cm in length with a round bloated body. It has a characteristic black gorget which begins above the beak, surrounds the eyes, extends towards the back above the ears and goes down towards the nape. On the upper part of the head, the gorget extends to the base of the beak and forms a bridle. On its flanks, there are 14 black and white alternate stripes and the beak and legs are red. The Rock partridge makes a noise when landing. It lives in flocks of 8-20 birds and its song is a melodious squawk. Residing in Greece, it is found only in mainland Greece and Thrace.
