The Common Snipe is 27cm in length. It flies in a distinct “zig-zag” fashion and is similar in colour to the Woodcock. It has a very long bill, white belly, striped back and tail edged in white. It is usually found alone or in small flocks. On lifting from the ground, the male emits a brief call.
